Today, in the historic Colonial Williamsburg, it's Grand Illumination Day. As soon as it gets dark, single candles are lit in the windows of the Historic Area's restored and reconstructed buildings and exterior garlands and greens. There is musical entertainment on outdoor stages and includes performers from A Christmas Tale, Greater Richmond Pipes and Drums, and Colonial Williamsburg's Fifes and Drums, and more, finishing up with fireworks.
We knew it would be crazy, so we got there in the morning and got a good parking spot and spent the day walking around, looking in the old shops and museums and restaurants.

The Public Hospital of 1773 was a hospital for the insane. It's now a very nice museum. Inside the hospital itself is all about the history of the hospital, but then you go down stairs and it leads you to another building in the back where there is this huge wonderful new museum with antique furniture, dishes, paintings, and folk art.
